About me

In 2001 I (Tamara van der Valk) started working with elephants. I've worked in different zoos across Europe. The last 24 years I've seen, learned and done a lot. The first 5 years of my career I worked hands-on, before  we started with the transition to Protected Contact with target training.
I've worked with both Asian and African elephants, with family groups, breeding bulls, bachelor bulls and calves.
I have provided footcare, trained animals and colleagues, had leading roles during transport, got experience with artificial insemination and so much more.

In 2015 I finished my farrier school succesfully and did a lot of footcare on hoofstock and horse related animals.
Now it's time to use my knowledge and my experience to help others to provide the best care possible for their elephants.

Over the last 24 years I gathered my experience in the following zoo's:

Rotterdam Zoo (NL)
Ouwehands Zoo (NL)
Wildlands Emmen (NL)
Dublin Zoo (IRE)
Kolmården Zoo (SE)
